Oceania Judo Union - Open World Cup
Tallebudgera, Gold Coast, Australia
5th - 6th November 2005
This was the inaugural event in our region and
what an enjoyable one it was!
The organisation was without fault and the accommodation first class.
The individual competition attracted 101 entries from 12 countries and in
most weight divisions the level of judo was high. Australia dominated the
results with good performances by New Caledonia, Japan and New Zealand.
Unfortunately the Australian national team could not attend as they were
training for the 2005 tour of Asia. The competition was followed by a three
day coaching course under the expert tuition of Jeon Ki Young - 3 times
World and 1996 Olympic champion.
The World Cup team event rounded off a very pleasant week of Judo and
hopefully there will be a bigger WA presence next year. I encourage all of
you to put this event on your ‘to do’ list.
Statistics and results of the event can be
viewed at: www.ippon.org.
