Judo Western Australia (Inc.) is the governing body for Judo in Western Australia. We are delighted to assist our clubs and members to bring this fantastic Olympic sport to all our current and future players.

What is Judo?
Judo is many things to different people. It is a fun sport, an art, a discipline, a recreational or social activity, a fitness program, a means of self-defense or combat, and a way of life. It is all of these and more.

Originally founded in Japan in 1882 by Dr. Jigoro Kano, Judo is a refinement of the ancient martial art of Jujutsu. Dr. Kano studied these ancient forms and integrated what he considered to be the best of their techniques into what is now the modern sport of Judo.

Judo was introduced into the Olympic Games in 1964 and is practiced by millions of people throughout the world today. People practice Judo to excel in competition, to stay in shape, to develop self-confidence, and for many other reasons. But most of all, people do Judo just for the fun of it.

JWA Dan Grade Exams

After a very successful Judo WA Dan Grading event on the 15th of April 2018, we would like to congratulate the excellent performance of five 1st Dan and one 2nd Dan Black Belts.

2018 Judo WA State Championships

The 2018 Judo WA State Championships were held on the 25th of March at the beautiful venue of the WA State Netball Centre and were a huge success with around 250 competitors and tons of volunteers to assist on the day.

Judo WA Dan Grade Exams


The next Judo WA Dan Grade Exams will be held on the 15th of April 2018 at the Kano Judo Club Dojo.

To register, please check the JFA Website regarding grading requirements and then contact the Judo WA Grading Director with your application.

Closing date is the 15th of March 2018.


2018 Perth Oceania Open Judo Championships

Great news for all Judo enthusiasts in (Western) Australia.

It is with great pleasure that we are able to share this great news with you. Judo WA has worked extremely hard behind the scenes to be able to bring this international World Ranking List event back to Perth for 2018. 

Following the Western Australia International Open Judo Championships the weekend prior, and the subsequent International Training camp, the 2018 Perth Oceania Open Judo Championships will be held on the weekend of the 17th and 18th of November 2018.

Mark your calendars for this great double weekend Judo roller coaster. Please share with all your Judo friend around the world!!

2018 ACT International Open and National Training Camp

2018 ACT Open and Camp

Congratulations to our WA team who recently competed at the ACT International Open and attended the National training camp at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra.

Judo WA is very proud of your outstanding results, both on and off the mat!

At the same tiem, there was also an IJF Oceania Refereeing and Coaching Seminar of which several WA coaches and officials were in attendance. Feedback of this seminar will be distributed to the various clubs, officials and competitors shortly.

Criteria for 2018 Nationals selection & State Training information


All competitors wishing to represent Judo Western Australia at the 2018 National Championships should take note of the criteria for selection, which can be downloaded here.

Competitors should be advised that these criteria will be strictly enforced. Should you have any questions, please contact Fiona Iredale, Judo WA Coaching Commisionar as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.

Having a valid Working with Children (WWC) card is mandatory for all coaches/trainers that teach at a Judo WA affiliates club or school.
