Judo Western Australia (Inc.) - Grading Requirements
![]()
| Achievement in
Judo is recognised by a series of grades. The student grades are called Kyu
and are usually differentiated by coloured belts (obi). Different colors may
be used around the world and in some countries there are more than 6 Kyu
ranks. The ten black belts (or expert) grades are called Dan.
Grading for belts up to and including Brown Belt (1st Kyu) is done at club level. Grading for all Dan grades is done in front of a panel of grading officials, typically consisting of the higher Dan-grade holders in Western Australia. Only Dan-grade holders that have been officially appointed by Judo Western Australia (Inc.) are allowed to grade. The sport of Judo and, as such, the Judo Federation of Australia (JFA Inc), promotes and exemplifies the qualities of each individual in the physical, mental and cultural aspects envisaged by Dr Jigoro Kano since the sport’s inception in 1882. Judo, in it’s design, rewards sporting excellence and dedication to the development of the art for judoka in Australia irrespective of age, colour, race or creed, under the guidance of the International Judo Federation (IJF).
In seeking to achieve these
objectives, the JFA Inc and it’s members must adhere to the policy, procedures
and guidelines enunciated in the Constitution and the Grading Policy, procedures
and Guidelines Manual contained herein, as approved by the JFA Inc Presidential
Board and adopted by all member States and Territories. |
