Judo Western Australia (Inc.) - Judo WA Fun Day/Camp at Fremantle PCYC

Judo WA Fun Day/Camp at Fremantle PCYC
Date: 19th of February 2006
Location: Fremantle PCYC, 32A Paget Street, Hilton WA, 10am to 4pm

The Judo WA Fun Day/Camp that was held at the Fremantle PCYC on the 19th of February was a great success for both junior and senior Judokas. We started at 10am on two mats, one for seniors and one for juniors.

First there was an intense warming up. The seniors received an excellent warming-up routine from sensei Peter Middleton while the juniors were being entertained by sensei Robert Tichelaar with various Judo games and lots of break-falling. The juniors could not get enough of the crash mat.

All lined up, eager to go.
Senseis Peter, Alex and
Robert in front.

The kids loved Sensei Robert
using the crash mat to do
the craziest dives and rolls

After a short break, both groups were then trained by sensei Alex da Silva who's focus was on tachi-waza.

The best part of Judo is
Sumo wrestling.... wait a
minute.... that's not part
of Judo at all.

While Alex was focusing on Tachi-Waza, sensei Phil Daoust focused on teaching the intricacies of ne-waza.

They certainly are
paying attention

The kids just loved Phil
(His devotion to instructing
kids was clearly showing)

During the excellent lunch (with thanks to all the ladies for all their hard work in the kitchen) with sausage sizzle, lots of fruit, home made cake and plenty of drinks, all got to relax for a bit while watching a DVD from the 2004 Athens' Olympic Judo.

Finally....
something to keep them
all quiet....
What did it take?
A sausage and a video !!

After lunch, we had a special visit from sensei Rob hart and Ray Wyatt teaching all players some basic Aikido lessons. The kids were thrilled to find that some basic locks could have such effect.

You really don't want to
encounter Julie in a
dark alley somewhere

At the same time, sensei Tony Carroll delivered some spectacular Kobudo. The kids loved it, the seniors got to beat each other up and even the audience got to join in and deliver some excellent blows.

This Tony fellow was
rather impressive
(He shouted a lot too)

But honestly....
he was heaps of fun
and gave us all 110%

Especially getting to beat
each other up a bit
(without it actually hurting)
was great fun

We even got some of
the parents to join in.

The seniors loved the
chance to use the weapons

And then got a chance to use them on each other
(foam version of course).

After all that, both juniors and seniors were lead through a series of Randori sessions.

The camp finished at 4pm. Everybody was tired yet satisfied. When asked if we should do this again, all players answered "YES".

Watch this website as Judo WA plans to do this again later in the year.
