Judo Western Australia (Inc.) - Syndey 2008 Australian Judo Championships

Sydney 2008 Australian Judo Championships - Results
Date: 7-9th of June 2008
Location: Sydney

The biggest ever medal haul from Judo WA (5 gold medals, 7 silver and 9 bronze) – the other states are beginning to sit up and take notice!

We received many compliments from coaches and managers of other teams about how much we are improving, and how good the kids looked in their tracksuits (and how well behaved they were!)

Well done to all the competitors – outstanding results from the medallists and outstanding effort from all.

Many of our under 13 medallists will move up to the under 16 category next year, but the experience that the younger players gained this weekend (plus the ones who didn’t compete because they are too young, but are hungry to compete next year) will mean that we should still have a winning team in the under 13s and under 16s next year.

Success at this level comes from years of work, not just from one fantastic weekend. The club coaches who work week in, week out with the players are the ones who must take the credit. Particular mention must go to Carlo Knoester from Kano Judo Schools who coaches the majority of the team and directed much of the pre-Nationals training, but couldn’t be matside with the players due to his refereeing duties. I would like to thank Carlo and the other club coaches for their huge efforts and commitment to the players.

Thanks also to manager Ian Naylor for managing things so nicely!; to Sue Rogers for booking fantastic accommodation; to Simon and Nick – between us
we made sure that all the players had support and had coaches during their fights and also during the nerve-wracking hanging around in the line-up before the fights; and a huge thanks to all the parents, grandmas, brothers and sisters who took over a corner of the hall and made so much noise supporting our players – I know how good that makes the players feel!  Bring on next year!
