Dear Ladies and Gentlemen, It is a pleasure to welcome the Judo family to Perth (Western Australia) for the 2018 Perth Oceania Open and Junior Cup, presented by LiveLighter. I would like to thank Ms. Kate Corkery, Chair of Judo Australia, and Mr Simon Read, Chairman of Judo Western Australia for their support of this OJU event. It is a pleasure for the OJU to stage the OJU Open in Perth for the first time and we are confident of an excellent competition. I wish good luck to the organisers, volunteers, competitors, coaches and everyone present at the 2018 Oceania Open and Junior Cup.
Dear friends, coaches, referees, and athletes, On behalf of the Board of Directors of Judo WA Inc., I welcome you to the 2018 Oceania Open and the 2018 Oceania Cup presented by LiveLighter, hosted here in Perth, the capital city of our beautiful state of Western Australia. For many of you this will be your first visit to WA and we invite you to enjoy the relaxed and laid back lifestyle that we are fortunate to have. Our vast state encompasses many sightseeing and tourist attractions which we hope you will have time to explore. We feel very privileged that the Oceania Judo Union has entrusted us to host this event here in Perth and we are delighted to welcome all judoka and visitors from the Oceania region as well as those who have travelled from further afield. Although we may speak different languages we are all united and communicate in the universal language of Judo, our beloved sport. This competition provides the opportunity to connect with fellow judoka, for new friendships to be formed, and for the ongoing promotion of Judo around the world. In the words of Jigaro Kano - “Walk a single path, becoming neither cocky with victory nor broken with defeat.” I wish you all the best for these championships.
