Judo Western Australia is delighted to announce the appointment of Calvin Knoester as our new Sport Development Officer. We believe Calvin’s lifelong passion for Judo, combined with his extensive experience as an elite athlete and coach, will help to further elevate the growth and development of our beloved sport within Western Australia.
Calvin comes to us with an impressive background in both Judo competition and coaching. As a full-time performance athlete for over nine years, he has trained and competed at an elite international level, performing at world-level international events including the World Championships and other notable events included in the IJF (International Judo Federation) World Judo Tour. His success as an athlete is a testament to his commitment, self-discipline, and resilience, qualities that will undoubtedly inspire the next generation of Judo enthusiasts in our community.
Calvin’s experience extends to his coaching role at Kano Judo Schools, where he has led and planned sessions for individuals of varying abilities, from club player to Olympic level. His dedication to the sport makes him a natural fit for the key responsibilities of the Sport Development Officer, including the development and progression of coaches and officials, and the implementation and evaluation of programs aimed at increasing participation in Judo.
Calvin’s active participation in local events demonstrates his commitment to the Judo community. He has given back by volunteering in different capacities, such as refereeing as an accredited state A-level referee. This experience will be vital in his role assisting in the planning, organisation, and delivery of local and regional judo competitions and events.
