Judo WA is delighted to announce the election of Melissa Dennehy as Chair during its inaugural Board Meeting following the 2023 Annual General Meeting.
Since her induction into the Judo WA Board in August 2021, Melissa’s impact resonates not just as an administrative figure but as a heart and soul of the judo community. With a 3rd Dan black belt in Judo, Melissa’s involvement extends beyond boardroom discussions, reflecting genuine skill and dedication to the sport. This dedication will be on full display as she represents our community at the 2023 Kata World Championships in Abu Dhabi.
Beyond her involvement on the mat, you’ll often find Melissa volunteering at tournaments in WA, selflessly offering her time behind tables and wherever she can be of service. Melissa also serves on the Judo Australia National Veterans Committee and remains a valuable board member of UWA Judo Club, symbolising her sustained dedication to the sport’s advancement across Australia.
Melissa’s impressive academic and professional trajectory further augments her position. A Bachelor of Pharmacy graduate from Curtin University, she has built a notable career in healthcare. Her senior stints at the WA Department of Health highlight her leadership, strategy, and governance strengths, which Judo WA believes will be invaluable in the coming years.
We would also like to convey our heartfelt appreciation to Celeste Knoester, who rendered commendable service as the interim chair following Martin Ross’s departure from the board at the last Annual General Meeting. Celeste’s dedication and leadership were crucial during this interim phase.
