About Us:
Judo WA, as the premier governing body for Judo in Western Australia, champions the dynamic Olympic sport of Judo. Originally conceptualised in Japan by Jigoro Kano in 1882, Judo, translating to “gentle way”, is a martial art boasting the title of the world’s most practised martial discipline and the second-most popular sport globally, following soccer. Our Board, comprising both elected and appointed directors, is a dedicated team steering the strategic direction of Judo in the region.
Position Overview:
We invite experienced professionals to apply for the role of Non-Executive Director to join our high-achieving Board. This voluntary position presents a unique opportunity for individuals with legal or financial expertise who can bring strategic insights. The appointment is for a 2-year term, with directors eligible to serve up to 3 consecutive terms.
Board Composition and Responsibilities:
The Judo WA Board is made up of four elected directors and three appointed directors. As the Board’s backbone, it:
- Establishes the strategic objectives for Judo in Western Australia.
- Approves Judo WA’s annual budget.
- Ensures Judo WA’s compliance with legislative and regulatory standards, in line with the Mandatory Governance Principles.
Role Expectations:
As a Board Appointed Director, you hold a pivotal role in Judo WA’s success. Upholding our commitment to diversity in skills and experiences, directors are expected to:
- Engage with members and stakeholders, addressing and managing their needs effectively.
- Contribute to strategic planning, fostering the growth and leadership of Judo in Western Australia.
- Uphold unparalleled governance and leadership standards.
- Assess Judo WA’s performance using relevant Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
- Participate actively in assigned sub-committees, when required.
- Attend approximately 6 board meetings annually.
- Be present at the Annual General Meeting.
- Make oneself available for significant community events.
Ideal Candidate Profile:

- Expertise in Legal and/or Financial domains.
