A Shared Vision for Success
In line with the National Judo High-Performance program, a collaborative effort between the Combat Institute of Australia (CombatAUS) and Judo Australia (JA) since January 2021, these development squads aim to cultivate the skills and talents of young athletes. The program, supported by the AIS Performance Pathway Strategic Investment Grant and contributions from athlete families, is crucial for nurturing talents who are yet to be categorised or are categorised as Emerging.
Building a Sustainable Future in Judo
Judo Australia emphasises the importance of a robust pathway program for young athletes aspiring for international representation. This program focuses on various aspects of athlete development, including technical and tactical skills, physical conditioning, performance behaviour, and psychological development, all within an optimised environment for growth.
The Journey to Excellence
It is well-understood that achieving senior international success in judo can take approximately 8-10 years of consistent training and competition. Exposure to developmentally appropriate challenges is vital for this journey. Judo Australia will direct athletes in the Development Squad or categorised as Emerging, which may include Cadet, Junior, or Senior athletes, based on international results and commitment to date.
Continuous Evaluation and Opportunity
A mid-year review and selection process after the 2024 National Championships will provide an additional opportunity for athletes to join the selected group based on their performance in the first six months of the year.
