Judo Western Australia (Judo WA) is pleased to announce the appointment of five distinguished members to the Grading Committee for the term commencing 1 July 2024 and concluding on 30 June 2028. These appointments reflect our commitment to maintaining the highest standards in Judo grading and ensuring the continued growth and development of our sport within Western Australia.
The newly appointed members are:
Carlo Knoester
With an impressive 7th Dan Judo Australia grade and 21 years of experience on the WA dan grading panel, Carlo brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the committee. His dedication to Judo and his extensive experience will be invaluable in guiding the committee’s activities.
Simon Read
Simon holds a 4th Dan Judo Australia grade and a 5th Dan Kodokan grade and is currently a member of the Australian Kodokan Committee. His extensive international experience and various roles in Judo Australia make him an excellent addition to the committee. Simon’s insights and global perspective will contribute significantly to our grading system’s enhancement.
Peter Woollons
Peter, a 5th Dan Judo Australia grade holder, has extensive experience in various roles within the Judo community and has developed a club grading syllabus. His in-depth knowledge of kata and commitment to Judo education will greatly benefit the committee’s work.
Paul Kendrick
Paul, currently a 3rd Dan, has been an active member of the grading committee and brings relevant experience in Nage-no-Kata and Katame-no-Kata. His ongoing dedication and involvement in the Judo community ensure he will continue to contribute positively to the committee’s efforts.
Melissa Dennehy
Melissa holds a 3rd Dan and has significant experience on grading panels and in various kata forms. Her active participation in the Judo community and her knowledge of Nage-no-Kata, Katame-no-Kata, and other forms will be a great asset to the committee.
The Role of the Grading Committee
The Grading Committee plays a crucial role in ensuring that all grading-related activities within WA adhere to the Judo Australia Grading Policy. The committee is responsible for facilitating dan grading examinations, workshops, and ensuring compliance with grading requirements across WA clubs. Additionally, the committee advocates for periodic reviews and necessary revisions of the Judo Australia Grading Policy to maintain its relevance and effectiveness.
