The 2026 Melbourne International Open was held at the Broadmeadows Aquatic and Leisure Centre in Victoria from 10–12 April 2026. Following strong showings at both the 2026 Canberra International Open and 2026 Sydney International Open, Western Australian athletes again stepped onto the national stage and delivered a solid set of results across a range of divisions.

Across 10 WA athletes competing in 13 divisions, Team WA secured an excellent medal haul of 3 gold, 4 silver and 2 bronze medals, with an additional seventh placing recorded in a competitive field. The results reflected the continued strength of WA judoka across cadet, junior, senior and veteran age groups.

Gold Medalists

  • Kaian Kelly (UWA Judo Club) – Cadet Men / -60 kg
  • Arya Zale (SouthWest Judo Academy) – Veteran Women M1 to M8 / -70 kg
  • Georgia Aiesi (SouthWest Judo Academy) – Senior Women / -78 kg

Silver Medalists

  • Timeo Tournier (UWA Judo Club) – Senior Men / -66 kg
  • Joshua Coetzee (Perth Judo Club) – Cadet Men / -50 kg
  • Chloe Tournier (UWA Judo Club) – Cadet Women / -57 kg
  • Chloe Tournier (UWA Judo Club) – Junior Women / -57 kg

Bronze Medalists

  • Kaian Kelly (UWA Judo Club) – Junior Men / -60 kg
  • Angus Baird (UWA Judo Club) – Senior Men / -90 kg

Several other WA athletes also performed strongly and gained valuable experience against quality opposition from around Australia and overseas:

  • Noa Hogarth (UWA Judo Club) – Junior Men / -66 kg (7th)
  • Danny Wong (UWA Judo Club) – Senior Men / -66 kg (Unplaced)
  • Danny Wong (UWA Judo Club) – Veteran Men M1 to M8 / -66 kg (Unplaced)
  • Hugo Polankai (UWA Judo Club) – Senior Men / -90 kg (Unplaced)

The results again highlighted the depth of talent within WA clubs, with athletes from UWA Judo Club, Perth Judo Club and SouthWest Judo Academy all contributing to the state’s medal tally.

Congratulations to all WA athletes, coaches and supporters on their efforts at the 2026 Melbourne International Open. With the Oceania Championships and other major events still to come, the performances in Melbourne provided another encouraging sign for WA judo.
