Judo WA is delighted to announce the appointment of two new directors to its board, Mr. Luc Tournier and Mr. Gerrit Engelbrecht, who were officially appointed during the Board Meeting held on Thursday, 19 September 2024 for 2-year terms through to the 2026 AGM. Both individuals bring a wealth of experience, strategic vision, and a strong commitment to the growth and development of judo in Western Australia.

Luc Tournier joins the Judo WA board with a notable background in both professional and sporting domains. Luc has been an influential figure in the WA judo community, contributing significantly as a State Coach for the WA State Team and as a representative of WA with the Judo Australia Pathways Network Group. His extensive leadership experience includes serving as a Board Chairman and Executive Director, where he has overseen strategic planning, business governance, and operational management. Luc’s professional career, primarily in project and operations management within the energy sector, aligns with his dedication to fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment in the judo community. His leadership will undoubtedly strengthen Judo WA’s strategic objectives and further our mission to promote the sport at all levels in WA.

Gerrit Engelbrecht also brings valuable expertise to the Judo WA Board, having built an impressive career over more than two decades in facility and project management, as well as sports administration. With a Master’s in Business Administration and a professional focus on facilities and asset management, Gerrit has served in roles that highlight his abilities in stakeholder management, risk assessment, and operational excellence. His strategic leadership experience spans various sectors, including local government and sports, where he has managed significant projects and driven initiatives aimed at enhancing community engagement. Gerrit’s blend of skills and his commitment to community-focused sports initiatives make him a valuable addition to the Judo WA Board.

As we welcome Luc and Gerrit, we would also like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to David Smith and Christopher Erikson, whose terms as directors concluded following the 2024 Annual General Meeting on Friday, 23 August 2024. Their dedicated service and commitment to the organisation have been instrumental in advancing Judo WA’s goals. We thank them for their invaluable contributions and wish them success in their future endeavors.

Judo WA looks forward to the positive impact that Luc and Gerrit will bring to our board and our community, helping to propel our organisation forward and ensuring the continued growth of judo in Western Australia.
