On Sunday, 23 February, Kano Judo Schools hosted the first club competition of the year, the 2025 Kano Open Judo Competition. The event brought together approximately 130 WA judoka, ranging from our youngest competitors to veteran (30+) judoka, in a fantastic display of skill, spirit, and sportsmanship.

As the first club competition of the 2025 season, the Kano Open provided an excellent opportunity for athletes to put their training to the test in a competitive setting. It was a great way to kickstart the year and set the stage for upcoming events on the WA judo calendar.

Judo WA extends its congratulations to all athletes who stepped onto the tatami and a heartfelt thank you to the dedicated volunteers who worked behind the scenes to make the event a success. Their efforts ensure that competitions like these continue to provide valuable experiences for our judo community.

The competition was also a key moment for referee development, with a team of Green Shirt Beginner Referees gaining hands-on experience under the mentorship of experienced officials Robert Tichelaar, Celeste Knoester, Clement Chan, and Benjamin Agurto. Their guidance plays a crucial role in shaping the future of refereeing in WA.

With the 2025 season now underway, Judo WA looks forward to seeing continued growth and competition throughout the year. Well done to everyone involved!
