Team WA Continues Podium Form at the 2025 Melbourne International Open

The 2025 Melbourne International Open took place from Friday 4 to Sunday 6 April at the Broadmeadows Aquatic and Leisure Centre in Victoria. Just 1 week after the 2025 Fuel to Go & Play Judo WA State Championships, WA’s judoka continued their momentum on the national stage.

Athletes representing WA clubs delivered another strong performance across a wide range of age categories and divisions, with multiple athletes stepping onto the podium and demonstrating the strength of Western Australian judo.

In total, WA competitors secured 7 gold, 1 silver, 5 bronze, and 1 fifth-place finish, with others putting up strong efforts in highly competitive fields.


🥇 Gold Medalists

  • Alexander Vasilyev (UWA Judo Club) – Senior Male Kyu Grades / -81 kg

  • Mia Siboni (Judo International) – Intermediate Women (Cadets) / -52 kg

  • Maelie Tournier (UWA Judo Club) – Senior Women / -52 kg

  • Maelie Tournier (UWA Judo Club) – Junior Women / -52 kg

  • Isaac Chinchilla (UWA Judo Club) – U15 Boys / U66 kg

  • Zechariah Navea (Perth Judo Club) – U15 Boys / U55 kg

  • Mia Siboni (Judo International) – U15 Girls / U52 kg


🥈 Silver Medalist

  • Timeo Tournier (UWA Judo Club) – Junior Men / -66 kg


🥉 Bronze Medalists

  • Jordon Greenbank (UWA Judo Club) – Senior Men / -73 kg

  • Alexander Vasilyev (UWA Judo Club) – Senior Men / -81 kg

  • Angus Baird (UWA Judo Club) – Senior Men / -90 kg

  • Danny Wong (UWA Judo Club) – Veterans M5 / -66 kg

  • Hugo Polankai (UWA Judo Club) – Veterans M3 / -90 kg


👏 Other Notable Results

  • Timeo Tournier (UWA Judo Club) – Senior Men / -66 kg (5th)

  • Danny Wong (UWA Judo Club) – Senior Men / -66 kg (Unplaced)

  • Alexandra Foster (Elite Judo Club) – Senior Women / -63 kg (Unplaced)


With strong performances from both developing and experienced athletes, Team WA is showing impressive consistency across the Judo Australia National Event Series.

Congratulations to all athletes, coaches, and supporters who made the trip over to Melbourne and represented Western Australia with pride!

📆 Next on the calendar is the 2025 Mandurah Oceania Open & Cup, to be held right here in WA from 3–4 May — a major international event that will see WA judoka compete against some of the best from across the Oceania region and beyond.
