From Saturday 3 May to Sunday 4 May, the Mandurah Aquatic and Recreation Centre became the international stage for the 2025 Mandurah Oceania Open & Cup, where elite athletes from across the globe came together to compete for world-ranking points and celebrate the spirit of judo.

This year’s event welcomed approximately 170 athletes from 14 countries, including Australia, Hong Kong China, New Zealand, Canada, Dominican Republic, United States of America, Argentina, Malta, Macau China, Kuwait, Samoa, and New Caledonia. Athletes competed across a full schedule of high-stakes matches, with spectators treated to displays of world-class technique, tenacity, and sportsmanship.

Judo WA was proud to once again deliver this internationally sanctioned event under the authority of the Oceania Judo Union (OJU), further cementing Western Australia as a premier destination for international judo competition.

A Celebration of Sport and Community

Beyond the action on the tatami, the Mandurah Oceania Open & Cup was a celebration of community collaboration and volunteerism. From athlete arrivals to final pack down, it took an extraordinary effort from behind-the-scenes to bring the event to life.

Volunteers played a vital role — from 2am transport shifts to mat setup and teardown, medical coverage, marshalling, ticketing, IT, and running competition tables. The Judo WA community’s dedication was on full display, with many contributing long hours across the weekend to ensure a smooth, professional experience for all involved.

A special thanks goes to Simon Read, Chair of Judo Australia, who worked tirelessly throughout the event — whether lifting tatami, supporting logistics, or driving airport shuttles. His hands-on support reflected the shared commitment that defines our judo community.

Thank You to Our Partners

We extend sincere appreciation to the City of Mandurah and Visit Mandurah for their strong support in hosting this event and helping to showcase the value of international sport in regional WA. Our thanks also go to the team at the Mandurah Aquatic and Recreation Centre for their warm hospitality and adaptability in accommodating such a large-scale event.

We also acknowledge and thank the Oceania Judo Union for entrusting Judo WA to deliver this event once again. The presence of OJU Sport Director Abedias Trindade De Abreu across the weekend was greatly appreciated.

Referees Set the Standard

We were honoured to welcome a highly experienced team of referees, led by IJF Referee Supervisor Carlo Knoester and Judo Australia Referee Commissioner Deepali Mistry. Their professionalism, consistency, and dedication to athlete safety allowed the competition to unfold with fairness and integrity, upholding the core values of judo.

Looking Ahead

The 2025 Mandurah Oceania Open & Cup was more than a competition — it was a powerful reminder of what can be achieved through collaboration, community spirit, and a shared love for our sport.

To every athlete, coach, official, volunteer, and supporter — thank you. You made this event a success. We look forward to welcoming the judo world back to WA in the future.
