On Sunday, 7 September at the Gold Netball Centre, the 2025 Perth International Open brought together 131 judoka across 205 entries for a huge day of competition and community. While the field was predominantly Western Australian, we also welcomed competitors from Victoria, Queensland, and South Australia, along with special international guests from Indonesia and New Zealand.

As a Judo Australia National Event Series tournament, the event provided Cadet, Junior, and Senior athletes the chance to earn valuable points toward the National Ranking Lists.

Medal Tally Highlights

Western Australia led the way, finishing with 42 gold, 49 silver, and 33 bronze medals. Victoria followed with eight gold and one bronze from only nine entries, Indonesia secured five gold, one silver, and one bronze, Queensland claimed two gold and one silver, South Australia finished with two gold and one bronze, and New Zealand’s best placing was a fourth.

Father’s Day Special: Team Kids vs Team Dads

Falling on Father’s Day, this year’s Open featured a crowd-favourite: the Team Kids vs Team Dads challenge, where children faced off against their fathers. We also collected and announced short Father’s Day messages from young judoka throughout the day, creating a wonderful family atmosphere.

Thank You to Our Volunteers

Events of this scale are only possible thanks to our tireless volunteers, from referees, scoreboard operators, first aiders, and IT staff, to the many who worked behind the scenes testing equipment, laying mats, setting up, and packing down. To every volunteer, too many to name individually, we extend our deepest gratitude for your commitment to judo in Western Australia.
