After receiving official confirmation of his selection less than one month ago, last Thursday WA judoka, and member of Kano Judo Schools, Wayne Phipps, departed Australia to compete at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games in Japan.

Wayne will become Australia’s first Para-judo representative since 2008 after competing for the first time in Para-judo at the World Championships in Portugal in 2018!

Wayne will be competing on Friday, 27 August 2021 in the Men’s u66kg category which is anticipated to start at 9:42am (AWST). An up-to-date schedule can be found on the official website of the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.

A live broadcast of the event will be available on the 7plus streaming service.

On behalf of the entire WA judo community, we wish Wayne the very best of luck and we look forward to cheering him on from back home in WA!

Wayne is accompanied by his coach, Calvin Knoester, a fellow member of Kano Judo Schools. Calvin is a member of the Australian judo team and has competed at numerous tournaments on the International Judo Federation (IJF) World Judo Tour including several Grand Prix and Grand Slam events and the 2018 and 2019 Senior World Championships.
