About Judo WA

Judo Western Australia is the recognised governing body for judo in Western Australia.

We are responsible for leading, supporting and growing the sport of judo across the state. Working in partnership with our affiliated clubs, coaches, referees, volunteers, athletes, families, Judo Australia, government and the broader sporting community, Judo WA provides the structure, support and direction needed for judo to thrive in Western Australia.

Our work is guided by the Judo WA Strategic Plan, which is built around four key pillars:

Participation. People. Sustainability. Athlete Pathways.

These pillars guide everything we do, from supporting local clubs and introducing new participants to the sport, through to developing coaches, strengthening governance, delivering events and helping Western Australian athletes pursue national and international opportunities.

Our Role

As the state governing body, Judo WA provides leadership for judo across Western Australia. We support our affiliated clubs and members, coordinate state-level activity, advocate for the sport, and work to ensure judo is delivered in a safe, inclusive, well-governed and sustainable way.

Each year, Judo WA undertakes a broad range of activity across the sport, including competitions, state training, club development, coach and referee education, participation programs, regional engagement, community initiatives, athlete pathway support, governance, policy development and major event delivery.

Our role is not only to administer the sport, but to create the conditions for clubs, participants and athletes to succeed.

Our Strategic Pillars

Participation

Judo WA is committed to growing participation in judo across Western Australia.

We work with clubs, schools, community organisations and government partners to introduce more people to the sport and create opportunities for people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities to take part.

This includes supporting club-based programs, school and community initiatives, come-and-try opportunities, beginner pathways, regional development and events that encourage lifelong involvement in judo.

Judo is a sport that develops confidence, discipline, resilience, respect and physical literacy. Through our participation work, we aim to make judo more visible, accessible and welcoming across the state.

People

People are at the heart of judo in Western Australia.

Our sport relies on the commitment of coaches, referees, volunteers, administrators, parents, officials and club leaders. Judo WA supports the development of these people through education, mentoring, accreditation support, seminars, practical experience and leadership opportunities.

We are focused on building a stronger and more capable judo workforce so that clubs are supported, events are well-delivered, participants are safe, and the sport can continue to grow.

By investing in people, we strengthen the entire judo community.

Sustainability

Judo WA is committed to building a strong, well-governed and sustainable future for the sport.

This includes supporting clubs with governance and administration, maintaining appropriate policies and safeguarding practices, developing partnerships, managing funding responsibly, advocating for judo, and ensuring that the organisation has the systems and resources needed to serve its members.

Sustainability means more than financial stability. It means building a sport that is organised, inclusive, resilient and capable of growing over the long term.

Athlete Pathways

Judo WA supports athletes at every stage of their journey, from their first competition through to state, national and international representation.

We coordinate state training opportunities, support preparation for national championships, assist with development pathways, and work to create environments where athletes can challenge themselves and reach their potential.

Western Australia has a proud history of producing high-quality judoka, and Judo WA is committed to strengthening the pathway between clubs, state programs, national opportunities and international competition.

Our goal is to ensure that talented and committed athletes have clear opportunities to progress while remaining connected to the club-based foundations of the sport.

What We Do Each Year

Our Purpose

Our purpose is to grow, support and strengthen judo in Western Australia.

We want to see more people participating in judo, more clubs thriving, more volunteers and officials supported, and more athletes progressing through clear and meaningful pathways.

Whether someone is stepping onto the mat for the first time, volunteering at a local club, refereeing their first competition, coaching the next generation, representing Western Australia, or pursuing international goals, Judo WA is here to support their journey.

Our Community

Judo in Western Australia is built by its people.

Our community includes clubs, coaches, athletes, referees, volunteers, parents, officials, administrators and supporters who all contribute to the growth and success of the sport.

Judo WA is proud to lead and support this community as we work together to deliver on our Strategic Plan and build a stronger future for judo in Western Australia.
