Step 2

Club Participation

Train regularly at your local club.

Club judo is the foundation of the sport. Train regularly, grade through the kyu system and participate in club competitions.

Step 3

WA State Training

A coordinated, year-round program bringing judoka from clubs across Western Australia together for high-quality, collaborative training.

Judo WA’s State Training Program is a coordinated, year-round initiative that brings judoka from clubs across Western Australia together for high-quality, collaborative training.

Led by the WA State Coaching Team, each session provides athletes with opportunities to develop their technical and tactical skills, experience different coaching perspectives and train alongside a broader range of partners.

A key objective of State Training is to maximise the number of athletes of similar size, age and experience training together on the mat. By bringing the wider WA judo community together regularly, athletes can access a greater variety of training partners and prepare more effectively for state, national and international competition.

Why Attend State Training?

State Training sessions are designed to complement the work undertaken within each athlete’s home club. The program provides opportunities to:

  • Train with judoka from clubs across Western Australia
  • Access guidance from the WA State Coaching Team
  • Develop technical, tactical and competitive skills
  • Experience a wider variety of training partners
  • Build connections within the WA judo community
  • Prepare for upcoming competitions and representative opportunities

State Training also supports greater collaboration between athletes, coaches and clubs, helping to strengthen the overall standard and depth of judo throughout Western Australia.

Athletes should continue to train regularly with their home club and speak with their club coach about whether upcoming State Training sessions are suitable for them.
