Four WA judoka represented Australia on the Glasgow mat — coming home with two silvers, one bronze, and a fifth-place finish.
A family affair from WA
Siblings Saya and Vas Middleton joined Keishin Ochi and Maria Swan on Australia’s Glasgow 2026 judo team — Western Australia’s strongest Commonwealth judo presence in years. Competition ran at Hall Four, SEC Centre, from 31 July to 2 August 2026.

Saya Middleton
Reached the Commonwealth final on debut, taking silver after a golden-score finish against Canada’s Laurence Biron.
Middleton fought through the -63kg draw to meet Biron in the gold-medal contest. Regulation time ended scoreless before Biron claimed the title on a third shido in golden score.

Women’s -78kg
Maria Swan
First major international medal — silver on Commonwealth debut after storming into the -78kg final.
Swan defeated Kenya’s Zeddy Cherotich in the quarter-final and Canada’s Coralie Godbout in the semi-final, then led England’s Emma Reid with an early yuko before Reid won gold by ippon.

Keishin Ochi
Bronze by ippon in the -81kg medal contest against India’s Harsh Tokas (world #29).
On day two in Hall Four at the SEC, Ochi sealed Australia’s bronze with a composed, tactical contest — circling for the opening and finishing by ippon in just over three minutes.

Vas Middleton
Commonwealth debut in the men’s -66kg, placing fifth for Australia.
Vas opened WA’s campaign on day one. Competing alongside sister Saya, he finished equal fifth on the IJF result sheet for Glasgow 2026.
