Guidance for clubs and organisers planning judo events in Western Australia.

Open events require Judo WA sanction

Clubs organising an open event — one that welcomes Judo WA members from clubs other than their own — must have the event sanctioned by Judo WA before it can be advertised or run.

Club-only events for your own members generally do not require this booking step, but we still encourage you to check the calendar to avoid unintended clashes with other activity across the state.

Before you plan your event

Good event planning starts with a clear purpose, a suitable date, and the right people in place. Whether you are running a club grading, an inter-club competition, or a larger open tournament, Judo WA is here to help you deliver a safe, well-run event.

Review the Judo WA events calendar early in your planning. Events only appear publicly once they are approved and published, so other organisers may already be planning activity on your preferred weekend.

Types of events

Judo WA supports a wide range of club and state activity, including:

  • Club / intra-club events — gradings, club competitions and training for your own members.
  • Open competitions — events open to judoka from other affiliated clubs, which require sanction.
  • Training camps and clinics — technical sessions, preparation camps and development activities.
  • Dan grade promotion examinations — formal grading events conducted in line with national requirements.

If you are unsure which category your event falls into, contact Judo WA before you begin promoting it.

How the booking process works

  1. Check available dates on the Judo WA calendar and consider whether your event is likely to clash with existing or similar events.
  2. Submit an event booking request with your proposed date, venue, level and age groups. Sanction must be obtained before advertising to other clubs.
  3. Judo WA will review your request and contact you using the email provided. If the date is not suitable, we will work with you to find an alternative.
  4. Once approved, your event can proceed to licensing and publication on the events calendar.

Submitting a booking request registers your intent to hold an event on a certain day. Your event will not appear on the public calendar until it is sanctioned and published by Judo WA.

What you will need

When you submit a booking request, please have the following information ready:

  • Affiliated organising club
  • Proposed event name and date
  • Venue suburb and Judo WA region
  • Event level (All Levels, Beginner Only, Intermediate or Advanced)
  • Age groups included (or All Ages)
  • Registration link (if available)
  • Full name and contact details for the lead organiser
