Judo Western Australia is proud to congratulate three of our talented judoka who recently represented Australia at the 2025 Warsaw European Open in Poland, held from 22-23 February.

Jordon Greenbank (UWA Judo Club) – Men’s Under 73kg
Jordon Greenbank entered the tournament with determination, receiving a bye in the first round. In the Round of 64, he faced Hungary’s Bendeguz Hegedus. Despite a strong effort, Jordon was thrown for ippon, resulting in his elimination from the competition.

Saya Middleton (Perth Judo Club) – Women’s Under 70kg
Saya Middleton put on an impressive performance in the women’s Under 70kg category. After a first-round bye, she faced Kazakhstan’s Diana Telbayeva in the Round of 32. With some slick shime-waza in golden score, Saya secured the victory. Moving on to the Round of 16, she faced Germany’s Nele Noack. Unfortunately, she was defeated by ippon, bringing her campaign to an end.

Maria Swan (UWA Judo Club) – Women’s Under 78kg
Maria Swan had a strong start to her tournament, receiving a first-round bye before facing Maria Hanstede of the Netherlands. Maria secured victory in golden score with a waza-ari. In the Round of 16, she continued her winning streak by defeating Hungary’s Nikolett Sagi with a yuko score. Advancing to the quarter-finals, Maria faced Brazil’s Karol Gimenes but was countered for a waza-ari and lost the match. She then entered the repechage round, where she unfortunately fell to Brazil’s Beatriz Freitas. Maria finished the competition in a respectable 7th place overall.

Congratulations to Jordon, Saya, and Maria for their efforts on the international stage. Competing at this level is a testament to their dedication and hard work, and we look forward to seeing them continue to develop and succeed in future competitions.

Stay tuned for more updates on WA judoka competing at international events!
