Judo Western Australia is proud to highlight the participation of our WA judoka in the 2025 National Randori Camp, held from 23-27 February. The camp served as an important training opportunity for judoka competing in the 2025 Canberra International Open and 2025 Sydney International Open, providing high-level preparation between these major competitions.

The camp, hosted by Judo Australia, was led by an experienced team of National Coaches, including Emilien Freund, Ivica Pavlinic, Kerrye Katz, and Rob Katz, along with guest coaches from across the country. WA’s very own Catia Maia was among the esteemed guest coaches contributing to the development of athletes throughout the camp.

Training sessions were held twice daily, each lasting two hours, focusing on both ne-waza (groundwork) in the mornings and tachi-waza (standing techniques) in the afternoons. Sessions incorporated a mix of uchi-komi, drills, and randori, ensuring a well-rounded training experience. Additionally, structured recovery sessions were conducted each evening to optimize athlete performance and prevent injury.

WA was well represented at the camp, with the following judoka participating:

  • Alexander Vasilyev (UWA Judo Club)

  • Danny Wong (UWA Judo Club)

  • Oren Kelly (UWA Judo Club)

  • Nytalia McCracken (UWA Judo Club)

  • Skye McCracken (UWA Judo Club)

  • Maelie Tournier (UWA Judo Club)

  • Warrick Pedley (Kano Judo Schools)

  • Olivia Knights (SouthWest Judo Academy)

  • Jacob Read (SouthWest Judo Academy)

We commend all the WA athletes who took part in this high-performance training opportunity. Camps such as these provide invaluable experience, exposing our judoka to top-tier coaching and strong training partners from across Australia. Their dedication to improving their skills through such intensive training will undoubtedly contribute to their continued growth and success on the competition circuit.
