Judo WA was proud to welcome Nathan Katz, Judo Australia’s newly appointed Regional Pathways Development Coach for Western Australia, New South Wales, the Australian Capital Territory, and Tasmania, during the week following the 2025 Mandurah Oceania Open.

A two-time Olympian (Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020) and Commonwealth Games bronze medallist (Birmingham 2022), Nathan brings with him elite-level experience and a passion for athlete development. His visit marked a valuable opportunity for WA athletes and coaches to connect directly with one of Australia’s most accomplished judoka.

During his time in WA, Nathan visited four of the state’s largest clubs — Australian Institute of Judo, UWA Judo Club, SouthWest Judo Academy, and Kano Judo Schools. At each session, he delivered high-quality, engaging instruction, sharing technical insights and competitive strategies while inspiring the next generation of judoka with his personal journey through the sport.

Nathan’s appointment and visit reflect Judo Australia’s commitment to strengthening the national athlete development pathway, with a focus on increased regional support and consistent connection between clubs, coaches, and performance staff.

Judo WA thanks Nathan for his energy, generosity, and leadership across the week. We look forward to ongoing collaboration as we work together to support the growth and success of WA athletes on the national and international stage.
