University Judoka Set to Descend on Perth for 2026 UniSport Nationals

University judoka from across Australia will descend on Perth this September as judo returns to the UniSport Nationals program for 2026.

The men’s and women’s judo competitions will be held at the UWA Recreation and Fitness Centre in Crawley, with the official weigh-in scheduled for Saturday, 26 September before competition begins on Sunday, 27 September.

The event forms part of the 2026 UniSport Nationals, Australia’s largest annual university multisport event. More than 5,000 student-athletes representing approximately 40 universities are expected to compete across Perth between 26 September and 2 October.

For Western Australian university students, the event presents a rare opportunity to represent their institution at a national competition without having to travel interstate.

Represent your university

Unlike a regular club or state competition, athletes compete for their university at UniSport Nationals.

Students interested in participating should first contact their university’s sport department or University Team Manager to confirm that judo is available and discuss the university’s selection and registration requirements. Athletes must then complete their UniSport registration using the instructions and team information supplied by their university.

WA students are encouraged to make contact as soon as possible, as universities may impose their own internal nomination or payment deadlines ahead of UniSport’s national closing dates.

Whether an athlete is studying at UWA, Curtin University, Murdoch University, Edith Cowan University, the University of Notre Dame Australia or another eligible institution, their university sport department should be the first point of contact.

Registration fees and deadlines

Standard competitor registration costs $174 and closes at 11:59pm AEST on Sunday, 9 August. Late registration will remain available for $224 until 11:59pm AEST on Sunday, 20 September.

The published prices include GST but exclude the applicable processing fee. Non-competing officials can also register for $22 until 20 September.

Students should be aware that their university may charge additional team costs or have separate requirements covering uniforms, team management, accommodation or other services.

National-standard competition

The competition will be conducted under the official rules of the International Judo Federation, together with any event-specific provisions contained in the UniSport Judo Guidelines.

UniSport Nationals provides university athletes with an opportunity to test themselves against judoka from around the country while contributing to their university’s results. Beyond the competition itself, participants become part of a major national multisport event and have the chance to connect with thousands of fellow students from universities across Australia.

The event also provides an important showcase for judo within the university sporting community and an opportunity to introduce more students to the sport.

Judo WA encourages all eligible WA university students to contact their university sport department and explore the opportunity to compete. Members who know university students currently training or competing in judo are also encouraged to share the event with them.

Further information, including registration, the final timetable and competition guidelines, is available through the UniSport Nationals judo webpage.
